“The Global Conference on Sustainable Transport” in Ashkhabad
The favorable geographic position and ongoing activities provide an opportunity for Azerbaijan to become a major transport hub, the head of CJSC “Azerbaijan Railways” Javid Qurbanov said during “The Global Conference on Sustainable Transport” held on November 26-27 in Ashkhabad.
According to the Press Office of CJSC “Azerbaijan Railways”, the conference was attended by UN Secretary General Pan Ki-moon, the presidents of Turkmenistan, Afghanistan, Georgia, Bolivia, Montenegro, Austria and a number of heads of the international organizations. During the conference, Mr. Qurbanov provided an information about the ongoing works within the framework of “North- South” and “West- East” international transport corridors – the construction of new roads and railways, new port, creation of free trade area around the port and other arrangements.
Mr. Qurbanov also held the bilateral meetings with the Deputy Prime Minister of Turkmenistan, Minister of Foreign Affairs Rashid Meredov, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Transport and Communications Saltik Saltikov, Railway Minister Bayram Annameredov and the head of the transport service of Maritime and River Transport of Turkmenistan Aman Qurdov. During the meetings there were considered the perspectives of “East-West” transport corridor, connecting two countries, the issues of the operating unloading cargo from the ferries on Turkmen side, carrying out dredging in the port of Turkmenbashi and the launch of the ferries such as “RO-RO” between the two countries and the other moments of bilateral relations.
The Azerbaijani delegation also held meetings with the State Minister of India on the issues of road routes and navigation Pon Radhakrishna, with whom they discussed the potential of INSTC and the measures to develop the route.
