Estonia, Azerbaijan to co-op on North-South transport corridor
On April 7 “Azerbaijan Railways” CJSC hosted the meeting with the delegation headed by the Minister of Public Administration of Estonia, co-chairman of the Azerbaijani-Estonian intergovernmental commission Mikhail Korb. During the meeting, the chairman of the Azerbaijan Railways CJSC Javid Gurbanov spoke about the role of international transport corridors in increasing transit potential. He also informed the guests about the upcoming tasks.
Reporting of the current situation in the implementation of the international transport corridor “North-South”, Javid Gurbanov noted that from the station Astara to the Iranian border the new 8.3-kilometer rail line is laid. The test train has recently crossed the Azerbaijani-Iranian border on the new bridge. At the present time work is continued in Astara . The construction of transshipment terminal and the railway station in the area of 35 hectares are also included in this work.
Then the sides discussed the issues of bilateral cooperation.
At the meeting Mikhail Korb emphasized the importance of further expansion of the bilateral cooperation. According to the guest, his country is interested in developing relations with Azerbaijan. Estonia intends to join the “North-South” international transport corridor.
As a result of the meeting, the bilateral memorandum was signed.
