The first ever freight train running along the BTK railway has arrived in Mersin.
The first freight train that left the station in Kazakhstan has arrived in Mersin, Turkey. The train that ran 4200 km route from Kazakhstan to Turkey, left the Alat port during the inauguration of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars (BTK) Railway on October 30. The 846-kilometer route from Alat to Kars was completed in 40 hours. Train crossed two borders and the first operation on cargo transshipment took place at Akhalkalaki station in Georgia. The 1258-kilometer route from Kars to Mersin was completed in 30 hours. The train arrived in Mersin station 10 hours earlier than scheduled arrival time. It is worth mentioning that, 600 tonnes of grain were carried by train consisting of 30 containers.
