The prospects and priorities of cooperation with the World Bank were discussed
A meeting with a delegation headed by Sebastian Molineus, regional Director of the World Bank for the South Caucasus, was held at “Azerbaijan Railways’’ CJSC. During the meeting Chairman of Azerbaijan Railways CJSC Javid Gurbanov informed the guests in detail about the large-scale works carried out in recent years in order to turn Azerbaijan into a major transit and logistics center, modernization of the country’s railways and full functioning of international and regional transport projects.
At the meeting were discussed the prospects and priorities of cooperation between “Azerbaijan Railways” and the World Bank, the WB’s participation in financing the reconstruction of the Alat-Astara railway line as part of the North-South ITC, the results of the WB mission’s visit to Azerbaijan related to this project, which took place on July 16-24, as well as institutional and structural reforms aimed at strengthening the management system, improving the financial situation and achieving high operational efficiency. Sebastian Molineus, the regional director of the World Bank for the South Caucasus, said that the large-scale work was done to expand transport and logistics opportunities in Azerbaijan and increase transit potential also stressed the importance of further development of bilateral ties.
The meeting was also attended by Werner Gruner, Executive Director of the World Bank for Azerbaijan, and Navid Hassan Nagvi, country Manager of the World Bank for Azerbaijan.
