Chairman of “Azerbaijan Railways” CJSC Javid Gurbanov met with Minister of Road and Urban development of Iran
A meeting with the delegation led by the Iranian Minister of Road and Urban Development Mohammad Islam was held at the “Azerbaijan Railways” CJSC.
The guests first got acquainted with the Baku Railway Station. Chairman of the “Azerbaijan Railways” Javid Gurbanov told that the building of the Baku Railway Station was built in 1884 in the style of Mauritania, and was reconstructed in 1926. In 1977, a new building of the Baku railway station was erected. The 16-storey station building with a hotel was at that time the largest object of this type in the South Caucasus.
Later it became necessary to reconstruct the railway station in order to bring it in line with high standards and modern requirements. To this end, in March 2015, capital repair and reconstruction work started here. The facade of the main building of the station underwent a complete reconstruction with the preservation of the former architectural style, completely changed the interior. Ticket offices, passenger platforms have been renovated in a modern style, escalators have been replaced with new ones. Loads, elevators for passengers and disabled people are installed. During the major overhaul, administrative rooms, commercial and catering facilities Meeting modern standards were created here, mother-child rooms, waiting rooms, storage rooms, as well as “ASAN kommunal” No. 2 were given to citizens. This center serves all citizens regardless of the place of registration, including all passengers using the station.
The guests got acquainted with two-storey trains of KISS brand, produced by the Swiss Stadler Rail Group, which move with the Baku-Sumgayit-Baku route. Chairman of “Azerbaijan Railways” CJSC Javid Gurbanov informed the participants about the technical advantages of these trains.
The members of the Iranian delegation highly appreciated the work done at the Baku railway station.
After reviewing the Baku Railway Station, the guests were informed about the transport and logistics opportunities of Azerbaijan, International Transport Corridors at the meeting organized in the administrative building of “Azerbaijan Railways” LLC. Speaking about the importance of the “North-South” International Transport Corridor, the Chairman of the society Javid Gurbanov said that this corridor will play an important role in the development not only of Iran, Azerbaijan and Russia, but also of other regional countries that increase trade turnover by carrying out Export-Import Operations on this route.
Then, issues of expansion of bilateral relations were discussed. The sides exchanged views on the implementation of the Rasht-Astara railway.
It was noted that within the framework of the” North-South ” International Transport Corridor project, the Azerbaijani side has fulfilled its obligations. A new 8.3 km railway line has been laid from Astara station to the Iranian border, and the construction of a railway bridge over the Astara river has been completed. At the same time, the construction of railway stations in Astara (Iran) on an area of 35 hectares continues. In March 2018, the first phase of the Astara-Astara railway connection project and the cargo terminal were commissioned and at the same time the foundation of the grain terminal was laid. On March 6 this year, the Qazvin-Rasht section of the Qazvin –Rasht – Astara (Iran) – Astara (Azerbaijan) railway was opened, designed to become an integral part of the North-South International Transport Corridor. In the near future, the Rasht – Astara (Iran) – Astara (Azerbaijan) railway line will be completed and put into operation. All this will strengthen the transport and transit, trade and economic potential of both countries.
The Minister of Roads and Urban Development of Iran Mohammad Islami said that strengthening the activity of transport corridors is one of the most important tasks. In this regard, the importance of the international North-South transport corridor was emphasized.
