The 4th meeting of the Working Group on the development of the North-South Western route of the International Transport Corridor was held in Baku
The 4th meeting of the Working Group on the development of the North-South Western route of the International Transport Corridor was held in Baku. Representatives of Azerbaijan, Russia, Belarus, Iran Railways and Indian Concor – Container Corporation participated in the meeting.
The heads of “ADY Express” and “ADY Container” LLC, the subsidiaries of “Azerbaijan Railways” CJSC, also attended the meeting of the Working Group.
During 2 days, on November 28-29, 2019, the participants of the working group discussed the development and optimization of cargo transportation on the route India-Iran-Azerbaijan-Russia-Belarus-Europe. The parties analyzed the information on the existing cargoes coming from India, destination to Azerbaijan, Russia, Belarus and the EU countries and discussed the possibility of their attraction to the North-South route. In addition, the problems arising during the transportation of goods on the route and ways to eliminate them, as well as issues of implementation of infrastructure projects were considered. Among them, the current situation of the construction of the cargo terminal Astara in Iran and the construction of the railway Rasht-Astara. Detailed information was provided on the ongoing construction of the Astara terminal and further development of the terminal was discussed. It was noted that the volume of cargo passing through the terminal is growing and with the same period last year, the daily volume of cargo transshipment increased by 30 %. At the meeting, it was emphasized that since November of this year, through the International Transport Corridor North-South, the transportation of goods from Iran to Belarus has started. The parties also discussed the establishment of regular sea traffic between the ports of India and Iran, and the conduct of marketing research, and the creation of a single operator for cargo transportation. At the end of the meeting, a protocol was signed between the parties.
