The volume of cargo transportation with Russia is increased by more than 30 percent
Azerbaijan Railways CJSC met with a delegation led by the Minister of Economic Development of the Rostov Region of the Russian Federation, Mr. Maxim Papushenko.
Chairman of the Azerbaijan Railways CJSC Mr. Javid Gurbanov emphasized a high level of cooperation with Russia in railway sector. Also, the work done on implementation of international transport corridors through Azerbaijan was discussed at the meeting. Mr. Gurbanov said that there is a great opportunity for cooperation in the transport and transit sectors. He also informed, that the volume of cargo transportation with Russia increased by more than 30 percent in 2019.
The volume of rail freight transportation between the countries reached to 6,240 tons in 2019, while in 2018 and 2017 this index was 4,744 tons and 4,774 tons, respectively. So, freight transportation increased by 31.5 percent in 2019 compared to 2018, and compared to 2017 by 30.7 percent.
Mr.Gurbanov informed about comprehensive measures in the direction of turning the country into a transport center of the region, also towards the reconstruction of railway infrastructure due to its geographical location.
Mr. Papushenko noted the important role of the North-South and East-West transport corridors in strengthening the transport potential of both countries. The minister expressed interest in the transportation of import, export and transit goods through international transport routes while talking about the economic opportunities of the region.
During the meeting, the Rector of the Southern University (Institute of Management, Business and Law) of Rostov, Professor Imran Akbarov spoke about cooperation in the humanitarian sphere.
Then the parties discussed the issues of further mutual cooperation.
