Azerbaijan Railways CJSC held a board meeting through videoconference
On May 5, Azerbaijan Railways CJSC held a board meeting through videoconference. The meeting, chaired by Azerbaijan Railways Chairman Javid Gurbanov, focused on important measures taken to protect human health during the pandemic, to prevent the negative impact of the global pandemic COVID-19 on the economy of Azerbaijan, as well as serious socio-economic consequences. The chairman of the society noted that decisive and agile decisions of the head of state, a demonstration of social solidarity of citizens who joined the calls of President Ilham Aliyev and First Vice President Mehriban Aliyeva in the fight against coronavirus pandemic inspire confidence that we will get rid of this disaster soon.
The chairman of the society said that at the summit of the Non-Aligned Movement in the form of a contact group initiated by the President Ilham Aliyev, the head of state drew attention to the importance of our country as one of the important transport and logistics centers in Eurasia. He also noted that even during the pandemic, Azerbaijan responsibly assumes its role as a reliable transit and logistics center, ensuring unimpeded transit through its territory. It was noted that, despite the restrictions on rail passenger transportation during a pandemic, cargo transportation was carried out regularly. East-West, North-South, North-West transport corridors play an important role in increasing the volume of cargo transportation. At the meeting, it was also noted that the volume of cargo transported by the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars (BTK) railway has increased. ADY Container LLC and ADY Express LLC, subsidiaries of Azerbaijan Railways CJSC, play an important role in cargo transportation. It was also noted that non-oil products dominate among the cargo transported since 2017.
The meeting discussed the relevant preventive measures and disinfection measures taken to protect the health of passengers and railway workers. It was noted that a limited number of employees were involved in the pandemic, shiftwork conditions have been created for them. To organize the effectiveness of the activity, the application of modern technical innovations has been expanded and all documentation is available in electronic form.
The chairman of the company said that the project of the Absheron circular railway has been completed, and the remaining work will be completed by the end of the year. He informed about the completed and upcoming work on the construction of the railways of Lyaki-Gabala, Bilajari-Yalama and Alat-Astara and asked about the implementation of the projects. The implementation of the necessary infrastructure measures to increase the speed limit in the direction of Baku-Beyuk-Kesik was discussed. It was also noted that the Khachmaz-Shahdag railway is being designed and the geographical topography of the area is being studied.
Javid Gurbanov noted that 21 of the 50 AC locomotives ordered to upgrade the company’s fleet have already been delivered to the country. Another 9 locomotives are expected to be delivered this year. In addition, 10 out of 20 passenger wagons have already been received, and the remaining 10 wagons are planned to be delivered this year. In addition, the Company ordered 10 passenger trains.
At the meeting, reports were heard on the activities of various structures of the Company during the pandemic. It was reported that in accordance with the decision of the Cabinet of Ministers, in connection with the weakening of the special quarantine regime since May 4, there is passenger traffic density in the direction of Baku-Khirdalan-Sumgayit. Considering the growth of passenger demand, it was decided to launch additional trains along this route.
The meeting discussed important issues that should be implemented by the end of the year, and specific measures were identified.
