A meeting was held with the Ambassador of Argentine at Azerbaijan Railways CJSC
A meeting was held with the Ambassador of Argentine in Azerbaijan, Sergio Perez Gunella at Azerbaijan Railways CJSC. The possible prospects of bilateral cooperation and the existing potential in the field of railways of both countries were discussed at the meeting.
Chairman of Azerbaijan Railways Javid Gurbanov spoke about the transport and logistics capabilities of our country, active participation in international transport corridors and steps to be taken to increase transit traffic. It was noted that 3334 tons of cargo were imported from Argentina to our country in 2020. The volume of transit cargo between the two countries amounted to 28 tons, and the volume of export-oriented cargo – 37,411 tons. Ferrous metal and mineral construction materials, bread and food products dominated among the transported cargo. Proposals on the transportation of goods of Argentine origin and the initial route scheme were presented at the meeting. It was noted that close cooperation with maritime companies and railways of transit countries allows for convenient and efficient delivery of goods between Azerbaijan and Argentina. It was noted that these shipments can be taken from container terminals and ports in Argentina and delivered to the Turkish port of Mersin, the Georgian port of Poti, and from there via the railway platform to Azerbaijan and Russia, and through the port of Alat to Central Asian countries. The same scheme can be used for cargo transportation to Argentina.
Expressing gratitude for the warm welcome, Ambassador Sergio Perez Gunella said he had observed a number of similarities between our peoples during his diplomatic mission in Baku. Noting that he witnessed the determination and fighting spirit of our people during the 44-day war, the diplomat congratulated Azerbaijan on its victory. Noting that Azerbaijan serves as an important corridor connecting East and West, North and South, the guest spoke about the current state and development directions of Argentine railways.
A presentation reflecting the internal and external potential of Azerbaijan’s railway transport was held at the meeting. At the end of the meeting, the parties exchanged memorable gifts.
