A meeting was held with the U.S. Deputy Chief of Mission to Azerbaijan
A meeting was held at the Azerbaijan Railways CJSC with the U.S. Deputy Chief of Mission to Azerbaijan Michael Dickerson.
Chairman of Azerbaijan Railways CJSC Javid Gurbanov spoke during the meeting about the importance of infrastructure projects, reforms and international transport corridors carried out in the field of railway transport. He noted that active participation in such important projects as East-West, North-South and North-West transport corridors makes Azerbaijan one of the reliable transport and logistics centers of Eurasia. The North-South corridor, aimed at reducing the transit time of goods from India to Russia, as well as to Northern and Western Europe, requires the widespread use of Azerbaijan’s favorable transit opportunities.
Speaking about the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route, Javid Gurbanov said that preferential tariffs, as well as uniform prices and technology for container and wagon transportation operate on 28 routes for more than 10 types of cargo.
It was noted that work is underway to ensure the full use of the potential of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway which is the shortest route connecting Europe and Asia. In 2021, the transportation of export cargo through the BTK was launched for the first time.
US Deputy Ambassador Michael Dickerson, in turn, thanked for the detailed information on improving the railway infrastructure in Azerbaijan and existing corridors for international freight traffic. He noted that, despite the pandemic, American companies that are currently cooperating with Azerbaijan Railways CJSC are interested in further strengthening existing ties and involving new companies in this area.
Other perspectives of mutual cooperation were also discussed at the meeting.
