Azerbaijan and Georgian Railways signed a document on bilateral cooperation
A meeting was held at the Azerbaijan Railways CJSC with a delegation led by David Peradze, General Director of “Georgia Railways” JSC.
At the meeting, Chairman of Azerbaijan Railways Javid Gurbanov spoke about the prospects of cooperation between the two countries in the field of railways. It was noted that the transport sector has always been in the focus of the state as one of the main areas of cooperation, and for this purpose, Azerbaijan is actively involved in the implementation of important international projects. Geographical advantages expand further opportunities for logistics and transit, and Azerbaijan has become an important international transport hub. The Chairman spoke about the reforms in the railway sector, emphasizing the importance of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway. It was noted that the purpose of strengthening the activities of projects such as the North-South and South-West corridors, the International Trans-Caspian Transport Route is to increase the transit potential of the participating countries.
David Peradze, General Director of Georgian Railways, spoke about opportunities to further strengthen cooperation. Noting that the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway has a global character, the guest noted that this project is a great contribution to stability in the region, economic development and closer ties between our peoples.
At the meeting, the further development of this route was discussed, information was also provided on the work done to attract additional cargo to the routes passing through the territory of Azerbaijan and Georgia. Issues of mutual interest, cooperation within the Trans-Caspian international transport route and other topics were discussed as well.
Then a protocol on bilateral cooperation was signed between the leaders of both countries.
