Issues on the International Trans-Caspian Transport Route were discussed in Baku
A general meeting of the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route Association’s Legal Entities Union took place in Baku, on September 23-24.
Speaking at the event, Minister of Transport, Communications and High Technologies Rashad Nabiyev noted that in order to attract transit cargo to the “Middle Corridor” in a competitive environment created by neighboring transit corridors, the efficiency of the corridor, regularity of transportation, optimization of tariffs and, most importantly, simplification and harmonization of customs procedures are important.
It was noted that the most important tool to ensure the transparency of transit traffic and equal conditions between the participants in the transport process is the digitalization of the “Middle Corridor”.
It was noted that close cooperation between the International Association and Transit Cargo Coordination Council of the Republic of Azerbaijan- a collegial executive body responsible for optimizing tariffs, coordinating the activities of carriers and government agencies, ensuring transparency, simplifying and improving transit procedures, reducing their quantity and duration will help to increase the competitiveness of the “Middle Corridor”.
The event was chaired by the Board of “Kazakhstan Railways” JSC, Chairman of the Board of the International Association of Legal Entities “International Trans-Caspian Transport Route” – Nurlan Sauranbayev, Chairman of “Azerbaijan Railways” CJSC – Javid Gurbanov, Chairman of “Georgian Railways” JSC – David Peradze, Secretary General of the International Association of Legal Entities “International Trans-Caspian Transport Route”- Rakhmetulla Kudaibergenov, General Director of Turkish State Railways- Hasan Pezuk, Chairman of Aktau International Sea Trade Port JSC – Abay Turikpembayev, Chairman of “Azerbaijan Caspian Shipping Company” CJSC – Rauf Veliyev, General Director of Baku International Sea Trade Port CJSC – Taleh Ziyadov and Chairman of ” Port Kuryk” CJSC- Serik Akhmetov.
Characterizing the current situation in the context of the pandemic, the Chairman of “Azerbaijan Railways” CJSC Javid Gurbanov noted that this year, on the basis of joint activities, growth has been achieved in the field of cargo transportation along the Trans-Caspian international transport route. He noted that as a result of the 44-day war, and the liberation of our lands by the Azerbaijani army under the leadership of the President, Supreme Commander-in-Chief Ilham Aliyev, great opportunities have opened up for the successful promotion of transport corridors. Azerbaijan is the initiator of a number of important international projects in the region, including the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway. Our country plays an active role in the development of international transport corridors, which have a significant impact on international transport and the expansion of multimodal infrastructure. Javid Gurbanov expressed hope that the meeting will be useful for further strengthening cooperation, and the implementation of proposals and recommendations in the field of railways will have a significant impact on the economies of the participating countries.
At the two-day meeting were discussed the issues of approving the composition of the Board of the International Association of Legal Entities “International Trans-Caspian Transport Route” and the auditor’s report on financial and economic activities for 2019; amendments and additions to the Charter of the Union of Legal Entities of the International Association “International Trans-Caspian Transport Route”; Protection of intellectual property rights (logo and name) of the Association at the International Bureau of the International Intellectual Property Organization; Establishment of a joint venture on the International Trans-Caspian Transport Route; the development of the Middle Corridor until 2025 and the expansion of its presence in the European Union, as well as other issues.
The discussions focused on the effective use of the potential of the International Trans-Caspian Transport Corridor and the need to attract more freight traffic to this route.
Following the discussions, Deputy Head of the Representative Office of “Kazakhstan Railways” JSC in Central Asia, Heydar Abdikerimov was appointed Secretary General of the International Association of Legal Entities “International Trans-Caspian Transport Route”, Deputy Chairman of CJSC “Azerbaijan Railways” CJSC was appointed head of the working group on the development of international Trans-Caspian route.
At the same time, “Pacific Eurasia Logistics Tooth Trade A.S.” (Turkey) has been accepted as an associate member of the organization.
At the end of the meeting, a relevant protocol was signed.
It should be noted that the first test container train Nomad Express was launched on the International Trans-Caspian Transport Route “Shikhezi (China) -Dostyk-Aktau-Alat Port” was launched on August 3, 2015.
