Azerbaijan and Belarus discussed the prospects for cooperation in the field of railway transport

A meeting was held at Azerbaijan Railways CJSC with a delegation led by Belarusian Ambassador to Azerbaijan Andrei Ravkov.
Chairman of Azerbaijan Railways Javid Gurbanov spoke about the large-scale work that is being carried out by the Azerbaijani Army under the leadership of President, Supreme Commander-in-Chief Ilham Aliyev after the 44-day war to liberate our lands. He informed about the initiative of our country in the development of international routes, which are important for expanding the economic ties.
One of the main topics of discussion at the meeting was the cooperation between Stadler Minsk and Azerbaijan Railways CJSC. It was noted that our countries are developing bilateral and multilateral relations in the field of transport, including railway transport. Javid Gurbanov said that Azerbaijan Railways CJSC has been cooperating with Stadler Minsk CJSC, a leading industrial enterprise of Belarus and part of the Stadler international concern, since 2015. According to the contract signed with the company in 2019, it is planned to purchase 10 FLIRT passenger trains. 4 of them are diesel and 6 are electric trains.
It was also noted that Azerbaijan Railways CJSC applied preferential tariffs to the transportation of 20, 40 and 45-foot containers, grain and grain products, sunflower oil, wood cargo, oil products and all types of transit and export cargo which is transported through Azerbaijan’s Astara city in order to increase cargo transportation along the North-South international transport corridor. According to the Tariff Agreement adopted by the railway administrations of the CIS member states on February 17, 1993, at the annual Tariff Conferences, the representatives of Azerbaijan and Belarus discuss the tariffs for the next freight year.
Ambassador Andrei Ravkov also touched upon Azerbaijan’s achievements in the Second Karabakh War. He said that Azerbaijan restored its territorial integrity during the 44-day Patriotic War while fulfilling the decisions of international organizations. The diplomat noted that large-scale reconstruction work is being successfully and rapidly continued in the liberated territories, and they are ready to support the development of transport infrastructure in those regions.
Moreover, the sides exchanged views on the prospects for cooperation between Azerbaijan and Belarus in the transport sector.
