Working trains start to move until Mahmudlu station of Jabrayil for the first time after occupation
According to the Working Group on Transport, Communications and High Technologies under the Interdepartmental Center of the Coordination Headquarters, established by the Decree of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan to centrally resolve issues in the territories of the Republic of Azerbaijan liberated from occupation, 70 % of the construction work on the first phase of the Horadiz-Aghband railway project, which is an important part of the Zangezur corridor, has already been completed. Rails were laid at a distance of 23 km to the liberated from occupation Jabrayil region’s Mahmudlu station, and work began on the road.
The length of the Horadiz-Agband railway, the foundation of which was laid by the President in February 2021, is 110.4 km. Construction work on the railway line is being carried out in three stages. At the first stage, it’s planned to build a 30-kilometer railway section and Horadiz, Marjanly and Mahmudlu stations, at the second stage – a 55-kilometer line section and Soltanly and Gumlag stations, and the third stage – a 25.4-kilometer railway section and Minjivan, Bartaz and Aghband
As part of the project, it is planned to build 8 stations, 3 tunnels, 41 bridges, 3 galleries, 4 overpasses and a total of about 300 artificial engineering structures.
In the first stage, 90 percent of earthworks have already been completed, and 40 culverts, 9 bridges, 2 animal crossings, 52 emergency crossings have been built. On the 23-kilometer section of the road, elements of the superstructure of the track were installed. Thus, conditions have been created for the movement of working trains from the Horadiz, Fizuli district to the Mahmudlu station in Jabrayil district.
The construction work is being carried out in parallel with the demining process. Currently, more than 60 km have been cleared of mines. Completed design work on a section of 50 km.
The second stage of earthworks began in December last year. Currently, intensive work is underway to prepare the roadway on a section of 30 km from Mahmudlu station to Gumlag station.
All work on the project is planned to be completed in 2023.
